About this event
Jemaa el-Fnaa is the civic heart of the Marrakech medina. By day it is a plaza of juice carts and henna; after the sun drops behind the Koutoubia, rows of numbered food stalls roll in, halqa performance circles form, and smoke from the grills rises over the square.
UNESCO recognised the living practices of the square — storytellers, musicians, healers and performers — as Intangible Cultural Heritage. That designation is about the people, not the paving. The cycle repeats every night: stalls assemble around dusk, the square peaks between about 20:00 and 23:00, and the carts pack down after midnight.
This is a recurring public market, not a festival with tickets. Prices are per stall (ask before you sit). Street performers expect a small cash contribution if you photograph or linger in a circle.
